The Ask:
I selected Adidas because of its strong identity in performance wear and global influence. While the assignment was open-ended, I chose to design a children’s activewear collection to bring a more focused and unique direction to the project. This allowed me to explore how functionality, comfort, and playful design intersect for a younger consumer while still aligning with Adidas’ brand values.
For my Fashion Technology course, I was tasked with creating a full Fall/Winter apparel collection in collaboration with an established brand. The project required developing a concept from initial research through final product mockups, including inspiration gathering, textile design, and a cohesive collection presentation.

The Process
1. Research, Inspiration & Concept Development
I began by selecting Germany as my inspiration country because of Adidas’ origin and its strong connection to the brand identity. I researched German architecture, culture, landscapes, and winter environments to develop a strong visual direction for the collection. I wanted the left side of the mood board explain germany when the Berlin Wall was up and then the right side shoing how it transitioned from it.
From this research, I created a mood board that defined the color palette, shapes, textures, and overall aesthetic I wanted for the childrens line. I also made the intentional decision to design for children’s activewear, which helped narrow the target customer and guide design choices around movement, durability, and playful expression.
2. Design Development & Collection Execution
Using Adobe Illustrator, I created six original textile patterns inspired by my mood board and research. I then applied these patterns to children’s activewear garments using Photoshop and Illustrator to create realistic product mockups.
Finally, I organized everything into a cohesive presentation that communicated the concept, design process, and final collection in a clear and visually engaging way.
Final Outcome
The final result was a fully developed Adidas Fall/Winter children’s activewear collection inspired by Germany, combining cultural research, original textile design, and brand alignment into a cohesive concept.
This project helped me understand how much strategy is involved in product creation beyond just design. I learned how research, consumer focus, and brand identity all come together to shape a final product that feels intentional and marketable.
It also made me more interested in product development and merchandising because I enjoyed the process of turning inspiration into a structured collection with a clear target customer. I like the balance between creativity and decision-making—thinking about what a product is, who it’s for, and why it works within a brand.
