The Allure of Fantasy
Beyond the Veil of Reality, Fashion Forecasting 2-Year Trend Report
The Ask
For my Fashion Forecasting course, I worked in a group to predict a fashion trend 2 years into the future and translate it into a cohesive concept supported by cultural research and consumer insight. The goal was to identify emerging shifts in society and explain how they would influence future fashion direction, aesthetics, and consumer behavior.
Our group developed a forecast centered on how fashion could respond to increasing political division and uncertainty by shifting toward escapism and fantasy-driven design.

The Process
1. Cultural Research & Insight Development
We began by analyzing current cultural conditions, including political tension and social uncertainty. From this, we identified a growing need for emotional relief and escapism, which we connected to a potential future shift in fashion behavior.
2. Concept Building & Forecast Creation
We developed the concept “Beyond the Veil of Reality,” which positioned fashion as a form of escapism. We explored whimsical, fantasy-inspired design directions influenced by fairytales, carnival aesthetics, and medieval references. We supported our forecast with research, including the idea that fashion can make emotional escape feel tangible and real (Lee, 2023).
Final Outcome
The final outcome was a 2-year fashion forecast predicting a rise in fantasy and escapism-driven design, where fashion becomes a tool for emotional expression and imaginative escape.
This project helped me understand how forecasting connects cultural trends to future consumer behavior, and how important it is to interpret the world around us when predicting where fashion is heading.
It also challenged me to work in a group setting where collaboration, communication, and idea alignment were essential. Managing different perspectives and keeping the concept cohesive was not always easy, but it strengthened my ability to lead discussions and stay organized under creative pressure. I was also selected by my professor as group leader, which pushed me to take more responsibility in guiding the direction of the project and ensuring our final concept was clear and unified.
